St. Baglan's / Comes the Wind

£75.00

Limited edition wood engraving (unframed)

5 x 7.5 cm (printed area)

Number of prints in the edition: 40

‘St. Baglan’s / Comes the Wind’ takes as its subject, the wind, the sea, and the Church of St. Baglan, Llanfaglan, near Caernarfon in North Wales. The church sits on a knoll overlooking the Afon Menai and is much photographed on account of its splendid isolation and the wind-swept trees which surround it. It is also the setting of my poem ‘Memorial, St Baglan’s Church, Llanfaglan’. I have fast-forwarded time and set the church right up against the sea.

Each print is hand-pressed from the engraved lemonwood block onto Somerset Satin paper using a silver spoon. Somerset Satin is a 250 gsm English archival paper mould-made from 100 % cotton at St. Cuthbert’s Mill, Wells. It has a gentle texture and a pleasing weight. I have hand-torn the sheets to approximately 14 x 19 cm. The ink used is Hawthorn Stay Open carbon black.

The edition is limited to 40 prints in total, each of which is signed, dated, and numbered in pencil beneath the printed area.
