Firmament: the Fourth Day

£300.00

Limited edition linocut (unframed)

Printed area 34 × 30.5 cm

Number of prints in the edition: 3

Firmament: the Fourth Day is the largest linocut that I have undertaken to date. I have hand-pressed it to 250 gsm white Somerset Satin paper which I have hand-torn to sheets measuring approximately 43 × 38 cm. The ink used is Cranfield Traditional Letterpress, Seville Black — a semi transparent ink made from carbon black with a hint of orange. The texture of the paper and lightness of the ink combine to give depth to the sky. I have limited the edition to three prints only.

The title of the print alludes to the Biblical story of the creation of the Earth and the heavens. As an artist interested in process above all things, the subject of the creation is one that I find fascinating in all its narrative forms and it is one to which I will return.

Each print in the edition is numbered, titled, and signed in pencil beneath the printed area. Given the size of the work, the print will be mailed in a stout cardboard tube and further protected by glassine paper.
