Tu Hwnt / Beyond

£150.00

Limited edition wood engraving (unframed)

17 x 5 cm printed area

Number of prints in the edition: 25

Tu Hwnt / Beyond takes as its starting point a medieval tower loosely based upon that of Castell Dolbadarn in North Wales. In creating the engraving, I have employed the device of a screen to offer glimpses of the view beyond as its shifts from Romantic to urban. In the final block, I have replaced the screen with a veil of seaweed and engraved a goldfish centre stage. The triptych is a meditation on changing landscape and sustainability.

The work has been engraved into three individual lemonwood blocks which I have grouped together into a triptych and pressed by hand to hand-torn sheets of 250 gsm Somerset Satin paper. The sheets measure approximately 31 x 15 cm. The ink used is Cranfield’s Seville Black traditional letterpress ink — an ink which gives a warm black softened by a hint of orange and which allows the fine detail of the work to come through.

I have limited the triptych to a run of 25 prints. Each print in the edition is numbered, signed and titled in soft pencil beneath the printed area.
