Un Nos Ola Leuad / One Moonlit Night

£50.00

Limited edition wood engraving (unframed)

6.2 x 4.6 cm (printed area)

Number of prints in the edition: 75

Castell Dolbadarn sits between the twin lakes of Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and makes itself something of an irresistible subject to the romantic. J.M.W. Turner painted it in 1798, and elevated it for effect. My boxwood engraving shows it in its wooded setting and looks towards Pen-y-Pass. The title for the print is taken from Caradog Prichard’s novel of the same name.

I have hand-pressed each print in the edition to Somerset Satin paper (250gsm) using a silver spoon. Somerset Satin is archival paper mould-made from 100 % cotton at St. Cuthbert’s Mill, Wells. It has a gentle texture and a pleasing weight. I have hand-torn the sheets to approximately 14 x 14 cm. The ink I used is Hawthorn Stay Open carbon black.

The edition is limited to 75 prints in total, each of which I have signed, titled, and numbered in pencil beneath the printed area.
