The Crossing

£100.00

Limited edition linocut (unframed)

Printed area 10 × 10 cm

Number of prints in the edition: 10

The Crossing is hand-pressed with a silver spoon to sheets of Kozo Natural Select paper cut to 18 × 18 cm. Kozo is a lightweight (45 gsm), semi-transparent archival Japanese washi paper. It is flecked through with unsized pulp and looked at in the light, the kozo (which constitutes 80% of the paper) creates a structure that is part web and part whorl. I have used Cranfield’s Seville Black traditional letterpress ink to complement the paper as it has a warm and gentle finish.

The print itself is based upon a self-portrait which recalls the gaze of a yachtsman I met in Arklow, Ireland, shortly after he had come into harbour having crossed the Irish Sea in a high wind. I was due to compete in a rowing race over the sea back to Wales the next day and the wild look in his eyes fell to a place deep inside me.

I have editioned 10 copies of the print. Each print in the edition is individually numbered (from 1 through to 10), and signed and titled in pencil beneath the printed area.
