Yn y Nos (In the Night) draws inspiration from a visit that I made to Eglwys St Tecwyn (St Tecwyn’s Church), Llandecwyn during my residency at Plas Brondanw. The church sits high in the hills above the Afon Dwyryd, on a slope which sweeps down to the sea. I have sought to capture something of its splendid isolation in my reimagining of it.
The drawing is built up with charcoal on top of a ghost print that I made by pressing a sheet of 250 gsm Somerset Satin to an inked plate onto which I had previously worked a drawing of the church. The ghost lends the work texture in the foreground and builds depth into the night sky.
Yn y Nos is shipped hinge-mounted in a conservation grade mount and is further protected with board. The drawing can easily be removed from the mount if a mount is not required when framing the work.
